Abstract
Single non-productive elderly were a vulnerable group. Their quality of life tend to get worst due to decreasing in physical and psychological conditions and also lack of family support. Therefore, family support is very important to increase their quality of life. This qualitative research purposed to describe the role of family support on the quality of life of single non-productive elderly Data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. There were 30 informants interviewed which consist of 10 main informants and 20 supporting informants. Informants were selected purposely The results of the study showed that family support had played an important role in improving the quality of life of single non-productive elderly. The family supports including emotional, instrumental, appreciation and information. Meanwhile, the quality of life of single non-productive elderly was analyzed from 4 dimensions including physical s, psychological, social, as well as environmental. Research findings indicated that elderly people experience a decline in their quality of life across both physical and psychological dimensions. The conclusion of this study explained that family support was crucial to improve the quality of life of single, non-productive elderly people. Single, non-productive elderly people who received family support had a better quality of life than those who had not.
