Abstract

As biodiversity declines worldwide, local ecological knowledge that has traditionally sustained human and nature relationships is also disappearing. This study aims to examine how the Instagram account @foragebali constructs environmental communication through narratives connecting women, nature, and local food to support the transmission of ecological knowledge. A qualitative content analysis was conducted on sixty Instagram posts published between March and May 2026. The analysis focused on visual and textual narratives using the perspectives of environmental communication and ecofeminism. The findings reveal a sequential communication process that reconnects audiences with nature through foraging, introduces local ecological knowledge, embodies that knowledge in traditional food practices, facilitates community learning, and positions women as key transmitters of ecological knowledge across generations. The study is based on narrative analysis of a single Instagram account and does not examine how audiences interpret the communicated ecological knowledge. The findings contribute to environmental communication studies by demonstrating how digital storytelling can preserve and revitalize local ecological knowledge. The novelty of this study lies in proposing the concept of Digital Environmental Communication as Ecological Knowledge Transmission, highlighting Instagram as a contemporary space for intergenerational ecological knowledge transmission.
