Abstract

This study explores food knowledge, analyzes family capacity, and identifies barriers to meeting toddlers’ nutritional needs among young-couple families in the coastal area of East Lombok. A qualitative phenomenological approach informed by Pierre Bourdieu’s habitus perspective was applied in Telong Elong Hamlet, Jerowaru Village, East Lombok. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 15 informants comprising young mothers, parents/parents-in-law, and health cadres, and were analyzed thematically. Family eating habits and toddler nutrition were shaped by interactions among food knowledge, economic conditions, family support, health cadres, access to digital information, and local beliefs about food. Informants were limited to families registered with village health services. The study contributes to public nutrition and family sociology by emphasizing the role of social support and collective caregiving in feeding practices. The study applies a habitus perspective to explain how economic, social, and cultural capital, food knowledge, and social fields interact in shaping eating habits among young-couple families.
